Current obsession

Singularly combining photography, traditional cyanotype printing processes, 3d printing, and digital maniuplation - to create singlular objects that combine all those practices in one, combining practcies of traditional craft & hand intervention with cutting edge 3d printing & digital intervention & fabrication practices.

Letting it dry fully indicates potential future applications of ink might work better - maybe with a porous surface treatment like clear acrylic to allow more of the chemical to bind fully? As rising and sealing it with hydrogen peroxide washes away most of it while bringing out the blue - most of it but not all of it, suggesting there may be success in a gradual buildup of surface chemical treatment, or (if it doesn't cost too much detail) some other surface preparation method (I dislike sanding as that obliterates detail, but a place to experiment)

OBDF Hexarium!

Little honeycomb cells to keep special items and small trinkets of emotional or sentimental value both safe and on display.

Many prototypes! I started too large, ended up quite small, I still think something in between these sizes is the best - or perhaps multiple set sizes. Also still figuring out the best way to - have these both display and accessable.

Currently held together by magnets, the smaller magnets didn't get here in time but what I have works well enough, ideally they'd be embedded in the plastic itself while printing, hidden in the walls - although I also want the walls to be narrow enough to look good, especially since they double next to each other.

And working on a way to have a lid that's both clear and tidy, secure and removable has been a great series of prototypes, from slide-out, tape or ribble to pull off, to what I think might end up being the best option of a small hole in the back that a toothpick or something small can be pushed in through the back to push the clear display lid out - but of course I have endless ideas for future iterations.

OBDF 311 Studio - going great

ACAD 310: Transductive Loops

(input images of course generated by my own computer art generation tool at https://square-materialistic-magician.glitch.me/ )

So this was a wild ride - turns out AI's need a lot of coaching when they run into technical things or are running off outdated data or false assumptions - some understanding of the underlying code is essential to be able to make anything actually function well.

For example it's easy to get in a loop of troubleshooting where the AI just simply iterates on versions of bad code it's already output - a basic understanding of what's happening greatly helps in spotting what's going wrong and collaborating on fixing it:

But with that caveat out of the way - I made a lot of loops, starting with simple things

, moving on to more complicated projects, trying to make something that would transductively convert a file from one to another to another through a chain. With some success! But also a lot of

But some successes:

Which actually did create a full loop

But of course that wasn't enough for me, and I got more and more ambitious:

Which led to the inevitable more and more errors resulting from expanded scope

Which I recognize counts as a success - I already succeeded, I'm now just pushing further - but taking a break from this level of madness I decided to approach a similar problem from a different angle - why not first experiment with using processing to mangle a single images through application of various effects?

First this just applies different effects to an input.png, which is fine

- but of course the fact that it was easy and possible made it boring, so what if instead I take a single input.ping and stack the effects in iteration?

This proved more interesting, and is something I will expand on but right now I'm really tired.
